BERLIN: Hamburg striker Ruud van Nistelrooy (pic) confirmed on Saturday that Spanish giants Real Madrid want him back at the club.
With Real’s Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain expected to be out for the next four months with a back injury, Van Nistelrooy, 34, who is out of contract at the end of the season in Hamburg, admits he is tempted to return to Madrid.
“The reports are correct,” said the former Manchester United star after scoring the winning goal in Hamburg’s 1-0 win over Schalke 04 on Saturday.
“It has been a strange week, it has been hard to concentrate and I am just glad it worked out. We just need to see what happens in the next few days, but it is not easy for me.
“It is not just any club which have expressed interest, it is Real. They are the only club which can make me change my mind.”
With strikers Mladen Petric and Paolo Guerrero both carrying injuries and Son Heung-min at the Asian Cup with South Korea, Hamburg need to keep hold of their Dutch star who joined them from Real in January 2010.
Hamburg are seventh in the Bundesliga and need a top five finish to be sure of a place in Europe next season.
