Title is United’s to lose, says Kidd

BIRMINGHAM: Manchester City assistant manager Brian Kidd admitted that the English Premier League title is Manchester United’s to lose after seeing his expensively-assembled side slip to defeat at Aston Villa.
Darren Bent marked his debut for Villa with the only goal of the game as City slipped to third in the table, three points behind their city rivals having played two games more.
United cemented their place at the top with a 5-0 demolition of hapless Birmingham at Old Trafford.
“United are going very well. They are undefeated. I always thought it was United’s title to lose many weeks ago,” said Kidd.
“But this is only a blip. It is already history and we will put it behind us.
“We didn’t show enough urgency in the first half but in the second period it was a different story.
“We put Villa under severe pressure and full credit to them for a great defensive performance.”
The City number two is confident they will bounce back in the right fashion.
Kidd added: “Our aim at the beginning of this season was to get in the top four. We lost at Everton and responded very well and I’m sure we will respond in the right fashion in the coming games.”
Kidd insisted that £27mil striker Edin Dzeko, who moved to Eastlands from German side Wolfsburg in the transfer window, will come good in the Premier League after he failed to fire against Villa.
“He is very talented,” Kidd said of the Bosnian striker.
“The Premier League is a demanding league. Today he came up against a back four of centrebacks.
“There’s no doubt he needs a few games. Before he came here I don’t think he’s played for 40-plus days.”
