MEXICO CITY (AP): Mexican authorities say they have arrested a suspect in last year's shooting of Paraguayan football player Salvador Cabanas.
Ramon Eduardo Pequeno is the chief of the Federal Public Safety Department Anti-Drug Division.
He says suspect Jose Jorge Balderas was arrested Tuesday in a wealthy neighborhood of Mexico City.
Cabanas was shot in the head point-blank at a bar on Jan. 25, 2010. He survived but is not expected to return to football.
The shooting months before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa rocked the Paraguayan national team, which had expected to field Cabanas as a starring player.
Witnesses said Cabanas and Balderas got into an argument. At the time he was playing for Mexico City's Club America.
