GEORGE TOWN: Kedah coach Ahmad Yusof is a relieved man after watching his Canaries eke out a 1-0 Super League win over newly-promoted Felda United FC of Kuala Lumpur at the Darulaman Stadium on Tuesday.
Having gained only a point from their 0-0 draw with T-Team Terengganu in their opening league match on Saturday, all he wanted from the match against Felda was the three points.
And his players duly delivered.
“Yes, I am happy with the result – and the three points. Though I can’t say the same about our performance,” said Ahmad in a telephone interview from Alor Setar yesterday.
“Except for the seniors like Badrol (Bakhtiar), Fauzi (Nan) and skipper Ahmad Fauzi (Saari), the others are still trying to find their footing in the team.
“That’s why the three points we earned is crucial. It has not only eased the pressure on the team but also put them in the right frame of mind for the coming challenges.”
Kedah actually have striker Azlan Ismail to thank for the win over Felda.
He was fouled in the box in the 64th minute and Badrol stepped up to stroke home the spot kick.
Like Terengganu, Ahmad has also given his men a one-day rest despite the Super League taking a 10-day break for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
This is because only two of his players – Hattaphon Bun An and Tan Yang Wei – celebrate the Chinese New Year and they have been given an extra day off.
Kedah will head for East Malaysia when the league resumes as they will take on Sabah at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Feb 11.
