LONDON: Cardiff City returned to second place in the English Second Division after a 2-1 home win ended promotion rivals Leeds United’s 12-game unbeaten run on Tuesday.
Victory saw Cardiff leapfrog Leeds and also go above Norwich City on goal difference, with leaders Queens Park Rangers, five points clear, in pole position to clinch one of the two guaranteed promotion places to the lucrative Premier League.
Former Newcastle and Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy (pic) opened the scoring for Cardiff in the 10th minute before Robert Snodgrass curled in an equaliser just shy of the hour mark.
But Cardiff forward Michael Chopra, running on to a Peter Whittingham long ball that caught Leeds napping, sealed victory for the Welsh side 11 minutes from full-time.
