MADRID (AP): Alexis Ruano scored in the 88th minute as defending champion Sevilla rallied for a 3-3 draw at Villarreal in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.
Cani and Giuseppe Rossi put the hosts ahead 2-0 inside 29 minutes at El Madrigal stadium, before Sevilla forward Alvaro Negredo scored the first of his two goals in the 39th.
Marco Ruben headed home in the 56th to re-establish the two-goal lead. But Negredo scored his fifth goal of the competition on the hour mark.
Alexis slotted beyond the reach of goalkeeper Diego Lopez to score in off the post with only two minutes of regulation time left.
Later Wednesday, Spanish league pace-setter Barcelona plays second-division leader Real Betis in another quarterfinal match.
