Ronaldo's 31st goal guides Madrid past Atletico

MADRID (AP) - Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 31st goal of the season as Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 3-1 in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals.

In a highly charged city derby played at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Diego Forlan slotted home the opener for Atletico after seven minutes before Sergio Ramos headed home Angel Di Maria's corner kick to equalize in the 14th.

While Atletico goalkeeper David De Gea kept the visitors in contention with a number of outstanding stops, Ronaldo's first score against Atletico proved the winner as the Portugal forward stabbed Mesut Oezil's bouncing cross in at the far post in the 61st.

Oezil scored the third goal in the 90th. Almeria beat Deportivo La Coruna 1-0 earlier Thursday.
