Robben returns to action after long absence

MUNICH: Dutch winger Arjen Robben (pic) made his long-awaited return after 231 days on the sidelines with hamstring problems as Bayern Munich thrashed local side Al-Wakrah 4-0 in a friendly in Doha on Saturday.
Robben played the first 45 minutes before withdrawing as he remains some way away from match fitness, having last appeared for the Bavarians in the Champions League final loss to Inter Milan last May.
He also featured for Holland in their World Cup final loss to Spain.
Bayern have been trying to obtain compensation from the Dutch Federation after last season’s Bundesliga Player of the Year returned from World Cup duty unfit for the start of the season.
Part of the compensation could take the form of a match between the Dutch international side and Bayern, with the latter keeping the match receipts.
Robben is hoping to be fit for Bayern’s first match after the winter break which pit them against Wolfsburg on Jan 15.
