LIVERPOOL: Everton boss David Moyes has quelled speculation of captain Phil Neville joining Tottenham after reports on Tuesday indicated linked the player to White Hart Lane.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp fuelled the transfer talk after admitting he admired Neville, while acknowledging that luring the player may prove “difficult.”
Moyes quashed the possibility of a move, saying in a statement on Everton’s website that Neville, 33, was not for sale.
“I spoke with Harry Redknapp briefly before the transfer window opened,” Moyes said. “(Tottenham chairman) Daniel Levy and (Everton chairman) Bill (Kenwright) had an even briefer conversation at our recent game against Spurs and mutually agreed that this would go no further.
“At no time was any offer made – nor would one have been welcomed. Phil Neville is our captain and is an important part of the Everton set-up.”
