Messi says Guardiola is best coach in the world

MADRID: Barcelona’s Josep Guardiola is the world’s best coach, the Spanish club’s Argentine international Lionel Messi said on Friday in a television interview.
“For me it is Guardiola, I think he has shown it. It does not just depend on winning titles, but also on how he makes a team play,” the winger told Spanish public television TVE when asked who he felt was the world’s best manager.
Guardiola, who spent most of his playing career at Barcelona, coached their B team before taking control of the first-team squad in June 2008 from Dutchman Frank Rijkaard.
The 39-year-old has led Barcelona to seven trophies in two seasons, including the 2009 Champions League and two successive La Liga crowns.
Messi, along with fellow Barcelona players Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, are the contenders for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award for the best player of 2010 which will be awarded tomorrow in Zurich, Switzerland.
“Xavi and Iniesta deserve it,” the 23-year-old said when asked who should win the award.
The Ballon d’Or is decided by a poll of world football journalists and Messi won it in 2009 by a massive margin. He is the first Argentine to win the award.
