It’s White Hart Pain as Becks is left to sweat on Spurs deal

LONDON: David Beckham is being forced to wait on his dream move to Spurs – because his American bosses are busy buying an NFL team.
Becks was hoping to complete a three-month loan switch in time to face former club Manchester United on Jan 16.
But the whole deal is under threat because his LA Galaxy chiefs, the AEG Group, are involved in a £1bil bid to buy the San Diego Chargers gridiron team.
Billionaire businessman Philip Anschutz, head of AEG, would need to give the green light to any loan deal involving the Galaxy’s biggest star.
But Anschutz is devoting all his time to the gridiron bid and will not talk about football matters until at least the end of this week.
Galaxy boss Bruce Arena is also against any further loan moves for Becks, 35, who has spent the past two winters at AC Milan.
A team insider said last night: “This issue isn’t going to get resolved in the next day or two so everyone is going to have to wait. The owners have bigger things to deal with and the head coach is in no hurry either.”
Londoner Beckham, who has 115 England caps, has already turned down the opportunity to join Everton on loan and Galaxy could also be reluctant to let him go after last season’s injury.
Although Fabio Capello initially called time on Beckham’s international career in August, the former Manchester United player has maintained his desire to represent his country again and a temporary move would appeal as he looks to force his way back into the England coach’s plans.
Spurs manager Redknapp wants Beckham to provide cover for England right winger Aaron Lennon, with David Bentley having struggled since his big-money move from Blackburn Rovers 2½ years ago.
