Chievo keen on Vela, injury blow to Diaby

LONDON: Serie A club Chievo Verona are leading the chase to sign Arsenal forward Carlos Vela.
The Mexican, 21, has struggled to nail down a first-team spot since signing for the Gunners in 2005.
And with Arsene Wenger bringing in Andrey Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh, Vela has fallen further down the pecking order.
Chievo Verona hope to finalise a deal next month.
Meanwhile, Arsenal could be without midfielder Abou Diaby for several weeks after the injury-plagued Frenchman limped out of the game against Wigan Athletic on Wednesday.
“It is a calf strain,” manager Arsene Wenger told the club’s website (www.arsenal.com) after Diaby’s latest injury blow.
“He is out for a while now. Some weeks I think.”
The French midfielder came on as a substitute in the 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Monday after missing nine weeks with an ankle injury and started against Wigan before hobbling off.
Wenger made eight changes to the side that beat Chelsea for the trip to Wigan which ended in a 2-2 draw, preventing the Gunners from moving level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester United and Manchester City.
